With the passing of the stimulus/recovery/spending/bailout bill today, the White House launched a new website to help citizens track where all of those trillions of dollars are going... with Drupal!
www.Recovery.gov has launched with a general overview of where the funds are going. The bill (otherwise known as The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) is so huge and complex, its a good thing they chose to track all of it with a system as powerful as Drupal.
From the homepage, emphasis added:
Recovery.gov is a website that lets you, the taxpayer, figure out where the money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is going. There are going to be a few different ways to search for information. The money is being distributed by Federal agencies, and soon you'll be able to see where it's going -- to which states, to which congressional districts, even to which Federal contractors. As soon as we are able to, we'll display that information visually in maps, charts, and graphics.
I can imagine them using different node types for different recipients of the money, either agencies, states, districts or contractors. With the right CCK fields, they should be able to do some pretty intense tracking and visualization.
This is extremely impressive and exciting. Obama's organization has been on the cutting edge of the web since day one of the campaign. The fact that they are truly bringing the White House and our government into the 21st Century gives me great hope for the future.
